A gift from the Luxembourg music scene to mark the accession of Grand Duke Guillaume (04.10.2025)
The Melusina Guitar is a joint project of the Luxembourg music scene. Musicians from all over the country came together to create a symbol of their solidarity, their creativity, and their significance for Luxembourg’s culture.
On 4 October 2025, “Luci” was presented to the public for the first time on the occasion of the Grand Duke’s accession to the throne; as a musical highlight, the national anthem was performed on it by Fred Barreto.
The initiative emerged directly from within the scene itself: Tom Schütz and Marc Tock (Melusina Custom Guitars) developed the idea and built three instruments – one as a gift for the Grand Duke, one to be auctioned in support of a good cause, and one to remain as a showpiece in the workshop. The project was supported by Rocklab and Rockhal.
The guitar “Luci”, named in reference to “Lucilinburhuc”, was crafted entirely by hand and painted in the national colours by artist Sara Caldarola. The mermaid motif refers to the Melusina legend and unites craftsmanship, art, music, and national identity. Numerous artists from Luxembourg have signed “Luci” – as a resonant symbol of a vibrant musical landscape.
